Effects of Silymarin and Baicalein on Glycogen Storage in the Hepatocytes of Rat Models of Hepatic Injury

Background: An association has been reported between hepatitis and glycogen storage problems. Glycogen disease (GSD) type I is induced by G6PD deficiency. Silymarin baicalein, as herbal agents, have hepatoprotective antioxidant potentials. Objectives: In this study, we assessed the effects of these herbs on liver problems hepatitis. Methods: Twenty male rats kept under standard laboratory conditions were divided into four groups, including healthy (control) hepatotoxicity treated with silymarin, or none. The levels ALT, AST, ALP, LDL, HDL, VLDL, TG, Cho, IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α measured, expression G6PD, CTGF, HMGB1, P53 determined. Also, histopathology was examined. Results: Treatment silymarin baicalein reduced serum TNF-α. increased gene expression, both P53, HMGB1 expressions, but had no hepatocytes. Conclusions: Baicalein showed anti-inflammatory could control inflammation necrotic factors, they did not affect hepatic storage.
